About me

Graduating as a vet in 2011, I have spent over 10 years in small animal specialist referral practices in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany, before relocating to Switzerland in 2023.

I completed my surgical training at the University of Bristol in 2019 and became Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2020 (Dipl.ECVS).

At present, I divide my time between the Clinique Vétérinaire Delémont (JU) and various practices through Switzerland (visiting surgery). I am also co-director of upskill.vet, a training centre dedicated to postgraduate veterinary education and regularly have lectured at courses in Denmark, Netherlands, UK and Slovakia.

I serve on the examination committee of the ECVS and regularly review articles for international scientific journals since 2018 (JSAP, Veterinary Surgery, VetRecord, Canadian Veterinary Journal). In collaboration with other colleagues I have produced more than 20 scientific publications.

What is a specialist (Diplomate)

The highest level of professional competency: to achieve the specialist title of european/american diplomate many years of intensive training are required after one completes the veterinary degree. The formal training is composed of at least one 1-year internship (often more in surgery) and 3-4 year intensive specialised training in a given discipline (for example surgery). During this time academic and practical attributes are forged and eligibility to sit the certifying examination is gained. The rigorous certifying exam is held once yearly for eligible candidates and takes three days. Successful candidates are awarded the Diplomate-Title and need to re-certify every 5 years, thus proving to remain at the top level in their discipline. You can find more information under www.ebvs.eu or www.ecvs.org.
